Retail First and YFG Announce $15 million redevelopment at Calamvale Central

A development application was lodged with Brisbane City Council on the 19th February 2021 for a $15 million redevelopment at Calamvale Central Shopping Centre with opening set for Christmas.

Managing agent, Retail First Pty Ltd, confirmed the DA was lodged by Town Planning Alliance for planning approval in relation to a 7,000 square metre redevelopment.  The proposal includes ten new retailers, internal reorientation of tenancies, a “market-like” look and feel and direct escalator and lift access from the underground carpark linking directly to the new Laneway precinct.

The new-look Calamvale Central is expected to deliver more than 100 job seekers long term employment and approximately 400 throughout the construction building phase, with a proposed opening for Christmas 2021.

Managing Director, Mr Steven Bridges said the proposed plans for Calamvale Central were well placed to revitalise the shopping centre.

“The proposed changes will allow us to enhance the centre and tenancy mix, creating a new and fresh shopping experience that will deliver different kinds of activities alongside shoppers’ everyday needs” Mr Bridges said.

Mr Bridges added the changes would incorporate a proposed day time/night time laneway precinct, offering fresh food and dining options that will complement the existing retailers.

Master planners and architects, Buchan Group design concepts portray an “internal streetscape” using an industrial palette of brickwork, natural timbers and steel elements.

Buchan Group Senior Associate, Mr Anthony Tai, said “We’re bringing the outside in.  By combining the design elements with the sights and sounds of food being prepared from within the tenancies,  you have an intimate area for diners who will ultimately become part of the “hustle and bustle” of the laneway concept.”

Calamvale Central’s Centre Manager Ms Deanne Woolcock said “This is an exciting opportunity for the Centre. The proposed changes will be the most significant since Calamvale Central opened in 2007 and will embrace the multiculturally diverse mix of the fast-growing community.”

Leasing discussions are in the final stages and an impressive tenancy mix is expected to be announced soon.

Ms Woolcock added, “The Laneway will reflect the locals desire for fresh food, dining and leisure offers in one easy parking, shopping, dining and entertainment precinct”.

Calamvale Central is a local community shopping centre featuring Woolworths, Woolworths Petrol Station, and 50+ specialty stores.  It is owned by YFG Shopping Centres and managed by Retail First Pty Ltd.
